All of the patterns currently available can create edge to edge coverage of your quilt top. Each pattern can be placed as-is in rows across the quilt top or can be staggered and flipped in a number of ways. When you place your order, the Old Dude will provide screenshots of the arrangements that seem the most pleasing or interesting so you can make the final decision. Or you can leave it to the Old Dude if you're unsure.
Density of Quilting:
The denser the quilting, the heavier and firmer will be the end result. If you prefer a larger design that leaves bigger puffy spots, increasing the size of the pattern will often suffice. For most patterns, a height of 6 or 8 inches and more will lessen the density. The Old Dude can accommodate patterns up to about 14" tall. Something to consider when deciding how you want your quilt finished.
Pricing:
Light to medium density arrangements: $0.025/sq.in.
High density designs: $0.035/sq.in.
Thread: $6.00 color/cone.
For example, a "standard" twin size quilt is 70" x 90", which has an area of 6300 square inches.
A light/medium design would be priced at $157.50 for the quilting
A heavy design would be priced at $220.50 for the quilting.
Customers can provide their own 80/20, 100% cotton or wool batting. I carry 100% cotton batting regularly, and can also provide 80/20 or wool batting.
Pricing:
100% Cotton: $0.46/inch of length
80/20 Cotton: $0.36/inch of length
Wool: TBD
Some Old Dude can bind your quilt completely or partially, or send it back to you as soon as it is off the long-arm frame. Standard binding comes as 2.5" strips folded in half, attached, then turned.
Full Binding: Attached on the front by machine and hand-stitched on the back side (no visible stitching). This is time-consuming so please allow for UP TO 1 additional week to complete. This type of binding is priced at $0.32/linear inch.
Full Binding by Machine: Attached on the front by machine, then stitched in the ditch on the top to secure the back. Visible stitching line near to the edge on the back side. This method of binding is priced at $0.26/linear inch.
Partial Binding: Attached only on either the front or the back at your choice. Customer finishes the binding. This binding style is priced at $0.16/linear inch.
Basting: Most of the time, a roller frame eliminates the need to baste the quilt sandwich. However, if basting is needed for part or all of a project, the Old Dude will add $0.01/sq.in. to the cost.
Backing Seam(s): Customers normally provide the backing ready to go, but if piecing it together squarely becomes a challenge, the Old Dude will seam your backing at the rate of $5.00 per full-length/width seams. Smaller seams, like piecing two short selvage ends to make up part of a backing panel are $1.50 each. For example, a lap or throw size quilt that will take 1 width of fabric (WOF) panel and 2 shorter WOF pieces joined to make up the difference would be priced at $6.50 for the seaming.
Pick-Up and/or Delivery:
Some Old Dude Quilts is based in San Francisco, CA and not set up to accommodate in-person visits. Pick-up and/or delivery of your project can be arranged within a 35-mile radius at $10.00/hour plus the IRS mileage rate of $0.625/mile, plus any bridge fares. Longer distances can be negotiated. Or we can meet half-way. The point is to get your quilt finished, so....
Of course shipping the project by UPS, USPS, FedEx, etc. is perfectly fine. I'll provide the ship-to details on confirmation of your order. Shipping rates will always be at-cost.
Your quilt top should be as squared up as possible so that it can mount correctly on the take-up roller. Please trim away as many stray threads as possible. More will form during transport and mounting and I'll take care of those.
Please press your quilt top and backing. I will do a touch-up pressing with unscented sizing prior to mounting on the frame.
Your backing fabric must be at least 12" wider and 12" longer than your quilt top so that the sandwich can be mounted properly on the frame.
If you supply the batting, it should be at least 10" wider and 10" longer than your quilt top. If I supply the batting, you are only charged for the length of the quilt, not the extra mounting allowance.
If you request binding services, please supply the 2.5" binding fabric so that it is at least 10" longer than the perimeter of your quilt top. Ex.: A 70x90 twin has a perimeter of 320" so the binding should be 330" long.
You have questions. I have answers. Send me an email describing what you'd like to know and I'll respond as quickly as possible!
